Coco the Clown!

I am crap at the whole make-up thing. Once I have a bit of concealer, powder, blush and mascara, I am happy. A bit of eye-liner on a night out and hey presto, I'm all glammed up. I have a few lipglossey things as well, but I'm more in favour of carmex. And if I really want to push the boat out or just look like a fool, I veer towards the fake eyelashes. And, I have mentioned before, fake eyelashes do not treat me well. If you want to know why, read HERE.

Yes, they are the sad occupants of my make-up bag. Yesterday evening, I let my 12 year old sister paint my face....no, that is wrong, I only let her do my eyes. The only colours she had in her possession were a light pink and brown eye-shadow. I am a pale girl and proud to be it, but light pink and brown do NOT suit me, in terms of eye-shadow. I looked like Coco the Clown. It wasn't a success, obviously!

However, here are two pictures of make-up gone right, as opposed to make-up gone oh-so-wrong. Lara Stone for W magazine (September) with blue/ green eyeshadow, bleached eyebrows & hair, pale face. If there was any justice, she should look like a happy Coco the Clown, but she does not. She looks amazing in this make-up look.

Clearly, I am in a make-up rut. Just another one to add to the list. I won't be bleaching my brows, even if that is the ''in'' thing to do at the moment. So, the only thing for it is to buy some blue eye-shadow. I can hear an Abba song coming on. Because whenever I think of blue eyeshadow, I think of the two lady singers in Abba.

Money, money, money. Must be funny, in the rich man's World.
Blue-y, blue-y, blue-y. Must be funny, in the eye-shadow World.

I fear this blue eye-shadow thing will NOT be a success. Maybe, I will be better off with my few bits of 'safe' make-up. Hmmmmmmmm.....

Anyway, enough about my less than desirable make-up story. What do you think of this 'Color Me Beautiful' editorial? Do you like the make-up? Oh and will you be bleaching your brows any time soon?

Hehe, maybe it's just that your sister has not that much experience when it comes to make-up?
The pictures you posted are very nice, but imagine a normal person, with normal eyebrows and hair color and a skincolor which is not so pure white. I think that the blue color would look odd. It's a model and magazine thing to use eyeshadows like these!

I am so against bleaching of the brows. I like a strong brow and the lack of them here just unsettles me. The eyeshadow...I can't say I'm crazy for it either. I mean it works here fine...but real world application. Not so much. I think it looks late 90s early noughties and not in the good way.
I do however love Lara. More than most things.

I had a complete obsession with blue eyeshadow when I was 12. I still own some, but I don't go all out like the editorial. However, I could see doing this look for a night out--not every day wear, though. And oh hellz no, I would never bleach my eyebrows! I mean, I thought about lightening them a shade or two to better match my blonde hair, but I'd never bleach them completely.

Good luck in your adventures in make-up land! It takes some practice, but you'll get it! :) Just start off slow.

i find that expression in a person face comes from the EYES and the BROWS... bleaching the brows would jus make a person seem washed out...

dramatic makeup can totally look good if done correctly! try it im sure you'd look stunning :)

Love these pictures, the make up is really nice!!
I'm not going to bleach my eyebrows, I don't follow trends and do things just because they're "in". Bleaching wouldn't suit me anyway because my forehead is so big. lol.
I love make up and experimenting and trying different looks. I'm not sooo good at it, but practising makes perfect :D x

hmmm yeah not much of a make up pro either. i like playing with elf cosmetics cause they're so cheap/expendable hehee esp when im the type that'll buy a quad of eyeshadow and just ... lose it... or forget about it... or not know how to use it.

beautiful photos!

I´m all about black when it comes to makeup, basically I only wear eyeliner and red lipstick...

I will NOT in fact, be bleaching my eyebrows soon, or ever. But Lara does look so unusual and pretty with hers missing, it's almost enough to make me consider it. Too bad I'm a brunette. I'd look like an alien!

Make-up can be tricky. The no. 1 for me are powder and eyeliner. I can never go without eyebrows. It just won't work. But others can pull it off fabulously!

Lovely post!

thank you!

love the photos! blue eye shadow seems scary, but it's actually fun! and i heard it goes with every eye color~

Abi said...

The lack of eyebrows is interesting, but I think it would look rather scary in real life! Love the blue eyes though. Especially against the rust/orange jacket

i'm not much with makeup either. it's on my list of things "to do" or shall i say get better at, but it's not a top propriety unfortunately.

Josie said...

I'm not huge on bold eyeshadow for myself (I prefer pewter and dark brown smoky eyes for night and a super natural look during the day) but it always looks so fab on other people!

If I had a nickel for the makeup trends that I tried that looked so cool in editorials, but looked absolutely ridiculous on me, i would have so many more shoes. Totally understand where you're coming from. With that, I love this idea.

I am in the same boat as you entirely!!!! I am in such a make up rut. I've been thinking of having my favorite gal at the Clinic counter have a go at it. Have you ever done that before?

Anonymous said...

I think this can only work for our blonde or cocoa skinned sisters. I can't even imagine how a caramel colored and black haired person as myself might even look with bleached eyebrows. Maybe like a martian. I dunno , too strange.

P.S: If anybody finds a photo of an indian or south american lady with bleached eyebrows please let me know,

Love from Toronto, Canada

i used to do my make-up just like that in the 90's. bleached eyebrows and all. love that look!

I'm completely clueless with makeup and I made so many mistakes! Usually I buy the wrong foundation or wrong blush color for my skin. So now I just wear just a little bit of powder, blush and mascara and a lip balm. Then I'm done! Wish I know more about makeup or rather, I should say wish I have more moeny to splurge on make up! xoxoxoxoxoxo

i saw this editorial the other day and feel in love with... everything, especially the makeup!

i don't wear all that much makeup to begin with, but I would like to make some changes about that... hm...
